Event Details

The Workshop, held on 3rd July 2024 at Thanthai Periyar Hall, marked a significant milestone in the P.G. & Research Department of Social Work's initiative to incorporate Kaizen and 5S methodologies into its daily practices. Dr. Clayton Michael Fonceca commenced the proceedings with a warm welcome, followed by Dr. C.R. Christi Anandan introducing the chief guest. The lighting of the lamp by Mr. M. Thomas Prabu, Vice-Chairman of the Madras Chapter of NIPM, and other faculty symbolized the inauguration of the event.

Rev. Fr. Andrews Raja delivered an insightful address on the principles of Kaizen, stressing the importance of continuous improvement and the profound impact of effective networks in professional development. The chief guest Mr. M. Thomas Prabu, Vice-Chairman of the Madras Chapter of NIPM elaborated on Kaizen and the practical application of the 5S methodology, drawing parallels from John Carter's "Atomic Habits" and highlighting the relevance of Industry 5.0 in contemporary organizational strategies.

The sessions were structured to provide both theoretical understanding and practical application of the 5S principles. Participants actively engaged in sorting exercises based on birth months, arranging themselves in order, and emphasizing cleanliness and discipline. The afternoon session focused on the practical implementation of 5S in designated areas, demonstrating its applicability in classroom settings and personal life for sustained improvement.

Feedback from student representatives during the concluding session underscored the workshop's success. They expressed appreciation for the practicality and relevance of Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain principles in enhancing organizational efficiency and personal discipline. The valedictory session, featuring a video summary of 5S principles and remarks from Rev. Fr. Andrews Raja and the chief guest on ISO standards and excellence, closed the event on a reflective and forward-looking note.
