The Inaugural ceremony of the 40th Ruby Jubilee Year Celebrations of the P.G & Research Department of Social Work, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, was held on 19th July, 2019, in the BISW (Bosco Institute of Social Work) Hall at 10:00 AM.  The Post Graduate & Research Department of Social Work, Sacred Heart College (DSWSHC) was established in 1979 which was then affiliated to the University of Madras. This was the first Social Work programme in a rural area in the State of Tamil Nadu, India. It was the dream initiative of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), spearheaded by the department’s founder  Rev. Fr. Joe Arimpoor SDB. The mission was to give priority to training rural students in professional Social Work who would cater to the needs of their communities.
 
The Department offers Post Graduation, M.Phil and Ph.D in the discipline of Social Work. The students of Social Work sharpen their competencies through various activities carried out by the Association of Social Workers, forums of specializations of Community Development, Human Resources Management and Youth Development. The Department has forged ahead in the last fourty years, with as many batches of trained Social Workers addressing issues of concern of individuals, groups and communities not only in the neighborhood but in many parts of the country and the world.

Former Principals, Heads of the Department, Eminent Professors, Illustrious Alumni and Colleagues across India participated in the inauguration of the 40th Ruby Jubilee Year Celebrations. Over 150 participants attended the event that commenced with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist in the College Chapel.                               Rev. Dr. C. Antony Raj, SDB, Rector/Secretary of Sacred Heart College delivered the welcome address followed by the declaration of the 40th Ruby Jubilee by Dr. S. Paul Raj, Head - Department of Social Work. Former Faculty Members were honoured by                            Rev. Dr. D. Maria Antony Raj, Principal, Sacred Heart College, for their meticulous support and noteworthy contributions in shaping the department.  
 
Rev. Fr. Joe Arimpoor, SDB, Founder – BISW - Department of Social Work, Sacred Heart College, declared the Ruby Jubilee Open and addressed the gathering. In his inaugural address he recalled the yester years of the department to the name and fame that the department holds today. The Department ranked Third for the Best Value of Money, Fifteenth for Quality and Contributions in the all India level India Today Survey Conducted by MDRA - 2018. It has also secured the Forth rank among the Top Social Work Colleges in Tamil Nadu.
 
A media presentation which included the nostalgic experience of fourty batches of students was presented along with the felicitation address by Rev. Dr. Stan Swaminathan, SDB, Former Principal, and Head of the Department of Social Work. Words of enlightenment and wisdom were shared by Former Faculty Members.  The students of MSW performed various folk arts and vivid cultural events. Illustrious alumni shared their nostalgic experiences as they recalled their college days. The Plan for the Ruby Jubilee Year was rendered by Rev. Fr. Andrews Raja, Asst. Professor, Department of Social Work and the vote of thanks was given by Dr. K. Arockia Raj, Asst. Professor, Department of Social Work.  The programme concluded with the national anthem evoking patriotism and spirit.
