The PG and Research Department of Physics, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous) organized a One-Day "National Conference on  Advances in Materials Research''  on 30th September, 2022. During the inaugural session Rev.Dr.G.Theophil Anand, SDB welcomed the gathering. Rev. Dr.John Alexander, Rector & Secretary inaugurated the event and gave the presidential address. Dr.A.Chandrasekaran, Assistant Professor, SSN College of Engineering, Chennai handled the first session on “Natural Radioactivity and the Associated Radiation Hazards’’. In his talk, he presented the concept of natural radioactivity, and its importance in the field of research and especially in materials research. He also mentioned the impact of radiation and relevant problems associated with radiation in society and the hazardous effect of radiation and the way of protection from radiation hazards. The session was chaired by Dr.S.Kalaiarasi, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics. During the second session Dr.J.Senthil Selvan, Assistant Professor, Department of Nuclear Physics, University of Madras, Chennai spoke on “Indigenous Crystal Growth from Solutions ’’. In his talk, he explained the basic mechanism of crystal growth, methods of crystal growth, and especially the process of preparing high-quality crystals from the solutions. He also spoke about the applications of crystals in the field of nonlinear optical materials, liquid crystal displays, sensors, piezoelectric materials, and the importance of crystal growth technology in the current scenario. Dr.M.Jose, Head (PG), Department of Physics, chaired the session.

Paper and poster presentations by the participants were held in two parallel sessions. Dr.P.Vivek, Assistant Professor, Sri Sankara Arts and Science, Enathur, Kancheepuram addressed the third session on “Photon Upconversion Nanomaterials and their Multifunctional Applications". In his talk, he explained the synthesis of nanomaterials, the fabrication of nano-sized materials by using various techniques, and their applications as sensors, supercapacitor materials and drug delivery systems.

During the valedictory session Mr.C.Thirupathi, Head (UG) Shift-II welcomed the gathering, followed by the valedictory address by Rev. Dr.K.A.Maria Arockia Raj, SDB, Additional Principal. Best oral presentation and poster presentation awards were given by Rev. Dr.K.A.Maria Arockia Raj along with Dr.A.Albert Irudhayaraj, Head(UG), Department of Physics, also the participation certificates for all the participants were distributed. About 150 internal and external participants from 10 other institutions were present for the conference. Dr.L.Anandaraj, Organizing Secretary, NCAMR-2022 proposed the vote of thanks.
