Event Details

The 74th Republic Day of the nation was celebrated on 26th January 2023, in Sacred Heart College with pomp and fervour. The Salesian community, faculty members, non-teaching staff and the students participated in the celebration. The event was also live streamed through the college’s official YouTube Channel.

The celebration began with the Thamizhthai Vazhthu. Lieutenant Major Dr. K. Sivakumar, introduced and felicitated the chief guest for the day Dr.S.R.Xavier Rajarathinam, the Vice- Principal (Academics), Head, Department of Chemistry (Shift I). Rev.Dr. John Alexander, Rector, Rev.Dr.D.Maria Antonyraj, Principal and Rev.Dr.K.A.Maria Arokiaraj, Additional Principal honoured the chief guest with a momemto.

Rev. Dr. D. Maria Antony Raj, the Principal, welcomed the gathering. In his address, the Principal wished everyone a happy Republic Day and reflected on the glory of democracy, the rights and responsibilities of the youth and the citizen of the nation.  He glorified the ceaseless effort put forth by Tamil Nadu in shaping the nation. He also highlighted the institution’s excellence in higher education.

Dr.S.R.Xavier Rajarathinam, the chief guest, after accepting the guard of honour hoisted the tricolour flag. It was followed by contingent drill performed by the NCC Cadets. The chief guest honoured the best cadets for their individual achievements. The chief guest in his address to the audience and the cadets recounted the history of why Republic Day and Independence Day are celebrated. The chief guest reflected on the magnanimity of the nation, the spirit of unity in diversity, its civilization and the contribution made by leaders in framing the constitution of such a vast nation. He quoted references from the Tamil Sangam Literature about the mentioning of the name Tamil Nadu and its significance. He also emphasized the youth to be more responsible in academics and in the society as the challenges and hurdles crossed to pursue higher education is immense.

The dignitaries honoured Rev.Fr.Daniel Ambrose, Department of Social Work for the best extension service award and Dr.K.Parthibaraja, Department of Tamil for the best contribution in the field of arts and literature, both awarded by the district administration respectively. The dignitaries also released the newsletter of the institution- Sacred Heart Times during the occasion.

The celebration concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Cadet Dhanalakshmi III Maths and National Anthem.
