Inauguration Report for the Academic Year 2017 - 2018

With joy and pride Sacred Heart College began yet another venture into new horizons for the Academic Year 2017 – 2018 with the Holy Mass at the College Chapel at 8:30 a.m. on 16th June 2017. The Rector/Secretary, Rev. Dr. C. Antony Raj, SDB, Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur, welcomed Rev. Dr. L. Don Bosco, the Vice-Provincial of the Salesian Province of Chennai, the Principal, Rev. Dr. D. Maria Antony Raj, the Additional Principal, Rev. Fr.Maria Arokiaraj, the Salesian Fraternity, Faculty Members and Students of Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur. After the sprinkling of the holy water, as a symbol of purification, the Holy Mass continued with the Liturgy of the Word by Rev. Dr. L. Don Bosco, the Vice-Provincial of the Salesian Province of Chennai.
The Inauguration of the Academic Year 2017 – 2018 commenced at DBIS on 16th June 2017 at 10:15 am with the Prayer Service rendered by Rev. Fr. K.S. Martin, SDB, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Chemistry. The Rector/Secretary, Rev. Dr. C. Antony Raj, SDB, welcomed and felicitated the gathering and introduced the Salesian Fraternity with their dignified roles for the academic year 2017 – 2018. The Rector/Secretary, specially welcomed Rev. Dr. L. Don Bosco, the Vice-Provincial of the Salesian Province, for his kind presence and commemorated him on his new role and responsibility as the Vice-Provincial of the Salesian Province of Chennai. The Rector/Secretary also welcomed                 Rev. Fr. K. M. Jose, SDB, the College Chairman and the Provincial of the Salesian Province who was engaged in Rome and was unable to be present.
The Principal of Sacred Heart College, Rev. Dr. D. Maria Antony Raj, Introduced the Office Bearers for the year 2017 – 2018. A special message on the secret of the evergreen Martina Navratilova's success in the field of Tennis was shared with the faculty and students of Sacred Heart College which addressed the legend, on her first official visit to India to play in the WTA Tour Hyderabad Open. The 60 year old tennis star stated the reason for her success succinctly: "The tennis ball does not know my age." Thus, the Principal urged the Salesian Fraternity, the Office Bearers, the Staff and the Students to take up responsibilities and work towards the success of the College.
Research and publication complement teaching and training, with the new motto followed by top academic institutions “Publish or Perish”, Dr. M. Jose, Research Director, released the College Journal with pride and pomp. This also benchmarked the College for its acclaims and laurels in the field of research.
The message for the Academic Year 2017 – 2018 was delivered with great enthusiasm and positive commendations by Rev. Dr. L. Don Bosco, the Vice-Provincial of the Salesian Province of Chennai. In his speech, the Vice-Provincial acclaimed “People who are constantly striving to improve themselves, will tell you one thing for sure, one thing they all have in common, that is having a good role models in their lives”. In doing so, he urged the Salesian Fraternity and the Staff to be role models to their students. He also commended and appreciated the relationship existing amoung the Salesian Network. He also stated that a new year gives everyone a chance to begin anew and fresh. It gives each one an opportunity to look ahead and to work harder towards the betterment of themselves and the institution. Mr. N. Arul Doss, Dean of Students Welfare, presented the rules and regulations of the college to the gathering. As part of the inaugural celebrations the Matru Nadaga Iyakam (MNI) performed an astonishing Chandai Melam a widely acclaimed keshtra vadhyas of Kerala. The Vote of thanks was rendered by Ms. E. Lisa, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Social Work and the programme concluded with the College Anthem.
