Report of the Silver Jubilee Reunion (1989-92 Batch) - Department of Physics

The alumni of 1989-92 batch of the Department of Physics, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur celebrated their Silver Jubilee Reunion on 28th September 2018.  It was a memorable event of joy filled with excited alumni celebrating their shared bond of love for their Alma Mater. The campus came alive with their whoops of cheer and peels of laughter on meeting old friends and professors who have a special place in their hearts. The programme began at 10.30 a.m. Though the programme started a little behind schedule, no one complained, since smiles lit up faces and vigorous handshakes, pats on the back and hugs were exchanged. The alumni were so engrossed in “re-living their seasons in the sun” that they had to be cajoled into coming forward to pay attention to the formal proceedings, as the prayer song marked the opening of the programme. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp. The welcome address was given by Mr.Arokiaswamy, alumnus of batch 1989-92.  A short video presentation about the college, followed by PowerPoint presentation about the alumni was screened. After short presentations all the delegates were honored.
Rev.Dr.D.Maria Antony Raj, the Principal, felicitated and addressed the gathering. In his address, he spoke with emphasis, the important role of the alumni in the progress and rating of an institution. Following this, Dr.S.Veeraraghavan, Mr.R.Dhanapalan and Mr.K.Shanmugam felicitated and shared their experiences in the college. To support economically weak students, the alumni provided financial support to needy students, which was the most important event of the alumni meet. They also gave Rs 25,000 as sponsorship towards National Seminar which is going to be held during the month of January 2019. Beyond all these, they also assured to support current students of Physics department through different mentoring opportunities either by being a part of on-campus lectures or through an in-person or online commitment, signing MoU’s, providing internships, presenting career programmes etc. This paves the way for student recruitment and thus adds to college placement results. Finally, the formal programme concluded with the alumni sharing their experiences in the college. On behalf of the alumni, Mr. C.Tirupathi proposed the vote of thanks and lunch was served to the alumni, invitees and students of Physics department.

All in all, that was what the day was – one of excitement and enthusiasm and it was undoubtedly excellent.
