The "Youth in Action-Shaping a Sustainable Future" One Day Seminar was organized by the PG & Research Department of Social Work, in collaboration with the Eco-Club, NSS Division and YMCA Boys Division Tirupattur under the MoU, in partnership with the Environmentalist Foundation India (EFI) on 23rd July, 2024 at Carreno Hall. Dr. K. Arockiaraj, the organizing secretary, coordinated the event along with the YMCA, Eco-Club and NSS. The seminar aimed to inspire youth towards environmental sustainability, drawing an impressive turnout of 300 students. Ms. Thenmozhi Asst. Professor coordinated the event on stage, starting with a welcome address by Rev. Fr. Henry Daniel Ambrose, SDB. Mr. George Bernardsha highlighted the youth's role in sustainability, followed by felicitation from Dr. Jude Vimal Michael. Resource persons Mr. Nithin Thomas and Mr. Adhako from EFI discussed water conservation, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, waste management, and community engagement.
The seminar raised awareness about water scarcity and environmental degradation, types of pollutants, the role of institutions in environmental protection, and the critical role of volunteers in driving change. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mohan Gandhi, instilling a renewed commitment to sustainability among participants. In a moment of solidarity, students took a pledge to actively participate in restoring water bodies in the Tirupattur district, marking this initiative as the beginning of their long-term commitment to environmental conservation. Rev. Fr. J. Andrews Raja and other faculty members from the Dept. of Social Work and Eco-Club and NSS were present for the seminar. The collective promise highlighted the enthusiasm and dedication of the youth to create a sustainable future.
