The Women’s Cell, Sacred Heart College organized the World Breast Feeding Week Celebrations on 2nd August, 2024. The welcome address was delivered by Ms. M. Janani, II PG, Department of Biochemistry. She eloquently set the tone for the event, highlighting the significance of breastfeeding for both mothers and infants. The event aimed to foster a supportive environment for women, particularly in promoting health and well-being. The two distinguished guest speakers Dr. R. SenthilKumaran, Senior Civil Surgeon & Dr. Sakthiganesan, Assistant Civil Surgeon from the Government Headquarters Hospital, Tirupattur were the resource persons. Dr. R. Senthilkumaran delivered an insightful keynote address and emphasized the health benefits of breastfeeding for newborns and mothers discussing the latest research and recommendations. He also addressed common challenges faced by mothers and provided practical solutions.
Dr. Sakthiganesan elaborated the medical aspects of breastfeeding. His talk covered topics such as the nutritional benefits of breast milk, the importance of early initiation and the support systems available for nursing mothers. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. A. Merceline Anita, Dean of Women Students Associate Deans - Dr. S. Kalaiyarasi, Dr. A. Poogothai & all the women cell faculty members. The women students (UG and PG) of Shift I, actively participated in this programme and they interacted with the doctors by raising their doubts and got valuable inputs and suggestions from them. The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Ms. D. Hemamalini, II UG student from the Department of Biochemistry.
The event was an informative and engaging session, bringing together students, faculty, and healthcare professionals to raise awareness about the critical role of breastfeeding in public health. The College's Women Cell was commended for organizing such an impactful programme, aligning with global efforts to support and promote breastfeeding.
