“I am from a village. Can I speak in English?

The English Association, Department of English,  Shift I, organized an insightful session titled "I am from a village. Can I speak in English” on the 29th of August, 2024. The event, which aimed at encouraging students from rural backgrounds to embrace and excel in English language proficiency, was held at Carreno Hall at 2:15 p.m.

The session began with a warm welcome address delivered by Mr. Madhan Kumar, Department of English, who also took the opportunity to felicitate the esteemed resource person, Rev. Dr. Maria Arockiaraj, Additional Principal of Shift II, Sacred Heart College. Professor Madhan Kumar highlighted the significance of the event, emphasizing the importance of English language skills in today's globalized world and commended the initiative of the English Association in organizing such a valuable program.

Rev. Dr. Maria Arockiaraj, with his vast experience and deep understanding of language acquisition, engaged the audience with a thought-provoking talk. He focused on various practical aspects of developing English language skills, particularly for students from rural areas who might feel hesitant or underconfident about their English-speaking abilities. Through the use of interactive demonstrations, He showcased effective methods to learn and improve English using modern apps and storytelling techniques. His approach underscored the idea that anyone, regardless of their background, can master the English language with the right resources and consistent practice.

The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating and sharing their experiences and challenges in learning English. His practical tips, encouragement, and the engaging format of his presentation made the session not only informative but also inspiring for the attendees.
