Event Details

The PG and Research Department of English (Shift – II), Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, organized an invited talk titled An Introduction to Literary Theory and Criticism on 10th September 2024 in Pope Francis Hall. The event was attended by the III B.A. English and I M.A. English students. The primary objective of the talk was to provide students with an understanding of literary theory and criticism and how to apply these concepts in practice.

The session commenced at 11:15 AM with a prayer song performed by the department choir. The event was hosted by Ms. M. Poornima and Ms. P. Saisri, both from III B.A. English, who extended a warm welcome to the gathering. Following this, Mr. U. Kamesh, Assistant Professor and the organizer of the event, introduced the resource person, and Mr. D. Louis Sahaya Henston, Assistant Professor of English (Shift – II) felicitated the resource person with a gift.

The resource person, Mr. V. Madhan Kumar, M.A., Assistant Professor of English (Shift – I), Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), provided an in-depth introduction to literary theory and criticism. He began by outlining the seven important periods of English literature, then offered a brief introduction to the concept of criticism. He discussed British literary criticism, referencing several key writers and their works. Mr. Madhan Kumar concluded the session by touching upon Post-colonial theory and engaging with students through a Q&A session.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. R. Srimathy from I M.A. English. A total of 63 students from III B.A. and I M.A. English participated and benefited from the session.
