The Women Cell of Sacred Heart College successfully organized an enlightening event titled "Self-Defence is the Art of Protecting Life" focusing on the importance of well-being and empowerment for young girls on 19th September, 2024 ay Kamarajar Arangam. The event, aimed at instilling confidence and self-protection skills among our girl students.
This Training program commenced with an introductory note by Ms. Abirami, a III BA English student. The atmosphere was set with an harmonious prayer song, performed by Rojleen& team. Ms. Pavithra G of III BA English, delivered an heartfelt welcome speech, extending warm regards to the audience and esteemed guests, followed by Ms. R. Ramya from III BA English, who introduced the chief guest of the day, Mr. M. Manigandan who being a highly accomplished Karate and Silambam Master, holds several prestigious titles, including a III Dan Black Belt in India, I Dan Black Belt in Japan, and II Dan in Silambam. A video presentation was screened, highlighting his extensive contributions and achievements. He was felicitated by Dr. K. Sheela, Dept. of Biochemistry & Mr. Mahendravarman from YSR (Youth Social Responsibility) team of Sacred Heart College.
The event continued with an engaging audio-visual presentation on self-defense techniques, which was met with great enthusiasm from the audience. The session was then officially handed over to the chief guest, Mr. Manigandan, who proceeded to train the students with fundamental self-defence techniques.
The highlight of the event was the practical training session conducted by Mr. Manigandan. He taught the students the key of self-defence techniques including three types of punches – the upper punch, middle punch, and lower punch. He also demonstrated various defensive blocks, including the upper block, lower block, outer-inner block, inner-outer block, upper X block, and lower X block. The interactive session left the students empowered and better equipped to protect themselves. After the training, a Q&A session was held, allowing students to clarify their doubts and seek further guidance from the chief guest. The thoughtful and insightful responses provided by Mr. Manigandan were much appreciated by the students.The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by T. Sasikala from III BA English, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the chief guest, the organizersand all the participants.
The event was well planned &coordinated by the Department of English and Mathematics.On the whole, it was a resounding success & enthusiastic participation of students, made the event more memorable.
