The PG and Research Department of Biochemistry organized a One Day Seminar on “Recent Trends in Cancer Research [RTCR-2024] in the 14th edition of BIOZONE" on 19th September, 2024. The PG Association President, Dr. K. Sheela welcomed the gathering. Rev. Dr. Praveen Peter, SDB, the Rector and Secretary, gave the inaugural address. In his inaugural address, he appreciated the department for conducting the Seminar and insisted the students utilize the expertise of the resource persons. He thanked the resource persons for making themselves available for the seminar. Dr. A. Jayaprakash, Head (PG) introduced and felicitated the resource person, Dr. F. Andrea Mary, and Dr. M. Fernandus Durai, Head (UG), introduced and felicitated the resource person Dr. D. Mohan Kumar. Mrs. J. Reshma felicitated the Rector and Secretary.

The Souvenir of BIOZONE 2024 was released by Rector Rev. Dr. Praveen Peter SDB, and resource persons, Heads and Presidents received the souvenir copies. In the first session, the resource person Dr. F. Andrea Mary, Assistant Professor, Department of Human Genetics, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education & Research, Porur, Chennai, delivered her talk on "Breast Cancer Susceptibility Genes in South Indian Population". In her talk, she elaborated on genetic factors that contribute to breast cancer risk within the South Indian context.

Additionally the resource person to concerning the importance of understanding regional genetic variations to develop targeted screening, prevention, and treatment strategies, ultimately improving breast cancer outcomes in South India. Tamil Selvan. P, Secretary, PG Association of Biochemistry, gave the vote of thanks for the first session.
In the second session, the resource person Dr. D. Mohan Kumar, Associate Professor, Dept. of Biotechnology, School of Bioengineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, delivered his talk on “Smoking Induced Lung Cancer Progression”. In his talk, he explained on the molecular and cellular mechanisms through which tobacco smoke induces genetic mutations, disrupts normal cell function, and promotes the aggressive progression of lung cancer. Oral and poster presentations were held at Carreno Hall and Oasis Hall at 2 p.m. Dr. F. Andrea Mary judged the oral presentation, and the participants actively participated and answered the questions from the chief guest. Dr. D. Mohan Kumar judged the poster presentation, and the participants actively showcased the presentation, explained it, and answered the questions from the jury. In the valedictory function, the resource persons distributed the prizes and certificates. Mrs. J. Reshma, UG Association President, expressed the vote of thanks. The program concluded with the national anthem.
