Event Details

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed annually on December 3. The day was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of their situations in every aspect of political, social, economic, and cultural life.

On December 6, 2024, the Tirupattur District Collectorate, in collaboration with the Uthavum Ullangal NGO, observed the International Day for Differently Abled Persons with a spirit of inclusivity and service. The event aimed to recognize and support the lives of differently abled individuals, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in fostering an inclusive society. A significant contribution to the event was made by student volunteers from the PG and Research Department of Social Work, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur. Under the coordination of Dr. K. Arockiaraj, Assistant Professor of Social Work, the volunteers enthusiastically packed food materials to be distributed to 1,500 differently abled persons. The dedicated efforts of the volunteers were instrumental in ensuring the success of the initiative. The celebration underscored the power of collaboration between government, non-governmental organizations, and educational institutions in driving social change. It served as a reminder of the collective responsibility to uplift and empower differently abled individuals, fostering an environment of equality and respect. The event not only marked a day of celebration but also reinforced the values of compassion and inclusivity, resonating with the spirit of the International Day for Differently Abled Persons.
