The One-Day Training Programme on Socio, Economic, Political Rights and Women Rights for the Gypsy, Irular, and Thurumbar Community Women was successfully held on 14th December, 2024 at the DB Centre, Department of Extension Education and Services (DEEDS), Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur. The program was a joint effort by Don Bosco Social Action and Research Centre (Don Bosco Siharam) and Department of Extension Education and Services (DEEDS), Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, aiming to empower marginalized women by building their awareness of fundamental rights and resilience.The day began with Registration and followed by an inaugural session led by Rev. Dr. Shanmugam SDB. He gave an introduction to the purpose and vision of the initiative. Mr. Moses delivered a session on the socio-economic challenges faced by these communities, offering practical strategies to overcome systemic barriers through this project. The program proceeded with an insightful session by Mrs. Tharageswari, Family Counsellor and Social Activist focusing on political rights and participation, which emphasized the importance of collective representation in governance. Mr. Benjamin and his team conducted a participatory workshop aimed at educating the attendees on women’s rights and the legal frameworks protecting them through folk-art. The hands-on activities engaged the participants and enhanced their understanding of rights. The concluding session facilitated by Mr. Moses, provided a recap of the day’s learnings and underscored the need for understanding the women rights. This session also included motivational inputs to inspire participants to advocate for their communities. After the session, a group photo was taken and lunch was served to all the participants.
