On the 6th of March 2025, International Women's Day was celebrated in the Kamarajar Arangam. It was organized by the Women's Cell Shift II. The celebration shed light on: 'Health Care', 'Social Issues', and 'Mental Health Issues and Management' related to women. About 1500 members including the staff and students attended the program. The celebration began by 10:00 am with an evocation of the grace of God through a prayer song by the technical team. Dr. Karpagambigai, M.B.B.S., Dr. Monika M.D., Mrs. Kalpana, Counselor, Mrs. Sugita Ms. Latha Munusamy, Student Counselor of the Campus and Mrs. A. Rani, Sub- Inspector, was the resource persons of the day.
Dr. Savitha, Vice Principal, Shift II, Dr. Dharma Devi, Head, Department of Computer Science, Dr. G. Devi, Dean of Women Students, and Dr. Diana Sangeetha from the Department of Chemistry, honored the chief guests with the shawl and a memento. Dr. G. Devi, Dean, Dr. T.G. Gerly, Associate Dean, and Prof. Ramya from the Department of Computer Science introduced the resource persons to the gathering. Rev. Dr. K.A. Maria Arockiaraj, Additional Principal, felicitated the gathering. He emphasized the importance of celebrating women around the world and concluded his talk with a note that women should be the up lifters of other women to build a safer and healthier society.
Dr. Karpagambigai, M.B.B.S. and Dr. Monika, M.D. addressed the gathering regarding the health concerns of the women, the complications of marrying young, and the benefits of reaching the milestones at the right period of woman's life. Dr. Kalpana recited an oath promising the concerns towards the wellbeing of the women in the society. Ms. Latha Munusamy, Student Counselor, with her extraordinary presentation explained the mental health issues and the ways to manage them. She elaborated on the connection of emotional, social and psychological wellbeing as a holistic reason for a woman's health. She gave a clear explanation on mental health issues like aggression, bipolar disorders, OCDs and gender roles in mental health. She exclaimed that choosing to end one's life is never an answer to stress. Sub - Inspector, Mrs. A. Rani, spoke about the prevailing social issues against girls and women. She spoke about the protection laws, a few case studies, precautions, and the consequences of the crimes. There was a short feedback and question session after her talk. The students and the faculty admired her speech. Ms .K. Snekha, from II M.Sc. Chemistry proposed the vote of thanks.
