As a part of the consultancy service, a tripartite MoU was signed by the Department of English, Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur with IVDP, Krishnagiri and Government Arts College for Women, Krishnagiri, a bridging course for the first-year degree students of Government Arts College for Women, Krishnagiri was conducted from 25-10- 2018 through 30.10.21 for the academic year 2021-2022. The objective of this course is to give an intensive and immersed English language teaching;to enhance the English language skills of LSRW of the learners. It also concentrated on developing learner’s proficiency through lexical approach.

 

The bridging course was organized for over 1100 women students with 13 Professors and 25 II PG students from the Department of English, Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur. The second PG students completed their 30hours of internship too.

By following the principle of near to far, in this course, the students were taught the most frequently used general vocabularies and verbs, which are essential for good communication. Practice was given in frequently used sentences too. They were given graded texts todevelop their reading and comprehension skills. Through parallel writing, the students were given practice to frame simple and error free sentences. Students were trained in speaking through functional and situational dialogues.

Classes were conducted for six days.The arts and science students attended the classes on alternative days; as per the government’s SOP. The arts students were divided into 30 groups with18 students each. The science students were divided into 18groups with 25 students each. They had 5hours of classes per day from 10.00 a.mthrough 4.00 p.m. With three days of contact classes, the language learning process was initiated and the further enhancement of the language is left with the learners.

The entire programme was initiated, facilitated and supported by the founder President of IVDP (Integrated Village Development Project) Mr. Kulandai Francis.

The trainers were very positive about the participation and the regularity of students in doing the follow up activities. The management and faculty of Government Arts College for Women were very cooperative and hospitable towards our staff and students. The feedback received from the students about the bridging course was very positive and encouraging.
