The PG and Research Department of English, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur Dt. organized an invited talk on Introduction to Translation Theory and Practice on 23.08.2022. The session commenced at 11.10 am with a prayer song. The main motto of the invited talk was to make the students understand translation theory and acquire the skill of translation.

The invited talk was hosted by Ms. Ashwini from I M.A. English. During the inaugural ceremony, M. Agalya of II B.A. English welcomed the gathering and the dynamics of the day was given by Ms. J. Mary Jenif, Head, UG Department of English Shift-II. Mr. U. Kamesh, the organizer of the invited talk introduced the resource person and Mr. S. Saravanan, the President of the association felicitated the resource person.

The resource person Mr. V. Madhan Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of English (Shift-I), Sacred Heart College (Autonomous) gave a detailed note on translation. First, he began with the meaning and definition of translation, then he moved on to give detailed notes on the translator and the work of the translator. He discussed the types of translation. The relationship between translation and language had been shortly discussed. An important note was made on history of translation theory and the translation of Bible. Later the discussion was on levels and problems in translation and tools used by translators. Rich insights were given on the connection between translation and students, translation and other disciplines. He gave an explanatory note on two dictums of translation. Finally, he concluded his talk by assigning and assisting the students with the translation exercise. The session came to an end with mindful vote of thanks proposed by A. Akshya from II B.A. English.

On the whole 120 students from III UG and PG students of English, Shift-II participated and got benefitted out of the invited talk
