The Department of Psychology along with Counselling Centre organized the “International Suicide Prevention Day” on 14^th September, 2023 at Sacred Heart College Campus, Tirupattur. World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is observed every year on 10^th September. The International Association of Suicide Prevention declared “Creating Hope through Action” as the theme for this World Suicide Prevention Day 2023. The goal of the suicide prevention program was to draw attention to the issue, decrease stigma, and raise awareness among the college students.

The faculty and students of the Department of Psychology designed boards related to suicide prevention and organised several other activities to create awareness among the students in the campus. The phrase "I love myself" was temporally inscribed on the hands and board with rubber stamps. Suicide prevention hand bands and tips to mental health bookmarks were distributed among the college students. Undergraduate students from the department created models related to suicide which focused on breaking the stigma surrounding seeking help while undergoing mental health issues. The students explained several scenarios and how help can be sought at every step to the students who visited the stall. The dignitaries who visited the stalls were Rev. Dr. Praveen Peter SDB, the Rector, Rev. Dr. Maria Antony Raj, the Principal Rev. Dr. Theophil Anand SDB, the Vice Principal Shift-I, Rev. Dr.Samson Shanmugam the Vice Principal Shift-II, Rev. Dr. John Borg SDB, the Controller of Examination, faculty from various departments and students participated in the awareness program.
