The Department of Life Education organized the Drug Awareness Seminar on the topic “Drug Ends All Dreams”, for all the I UG students (both shifts) on 19th August 2024. The Shift I students attended the seminar between 2:00pm and 5:00pm and Shift II students between 9:30am and 12:30pm. About 1348 students benefited from the seminar. For better participation the male students were attending in the Kamarajar Arangam and female students were in Carreno Hall. Rev. Fr. Amala Vinoth, the Director of Arutkaram De-Addiction Center, Jawadhi Hills was the animator of the seminar. Along with him there were other 4 resource persons: Mr. Mani, Counselor, Arutkaram, De-Addiction Center, Jawadi Hills, Mr. David, Coordinator, Don Bosco Social Service, Jawadhi Hills, Mr. Jesudass, Counselor, Arutkaram, De-Addiction Center, Jawadi Hills, Mr. Vijayakumar , Counselor, Arutkaram, De-Addiction Center Jawadi Hills.
On the inaugural function, Rev. Dr. Bharathi Bernadsha emphasized the risks associated with using alcohol and other drugs. He encouraged the students to prevent alcohol and drug related incidents. He stressed the importance of awareness campaigns and drug abuse among rhe students. The facilitators explained in detail about the prevalence of drug and alcohol addiction with facts and figures which includes the increase of drug users and alcohol consumers starting at an early age of twelve and thirteen. They insisted that “Prevention is Better than Cure” with regard to drug abuse. For rehabilitation of an addict, number of methods and treatment centers were enlisted. The team assured to offer their support through follow up, counseling and treatment of an addict with the referral of the participants. They urged the participants to attend Grama Saba Meetings and to make decisions to remove liquor shops in their locality.
In the valedictory session students gave their feedback about their learnings. Rev. Dr. Praveen Peter gave a concluding message. The organizing team Rev. Fr. Barathy Bernadsha (Campus Minister), Mr. Y Anand Jeya Prakash (Coordinator), Mr. J. Jintha & Mr. Pratap Pavan kumar, Asst. Professors & Skill Trainers were also present for the Seminar.
