Department of Extension Education and Services (DEEDS) of Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, in collaboration with Don Bosco Social Action and Research Centre (DBSARC), Don Bosco Siharam, Thiruvannamalai, organized a one-day training programme on 3rd May 2025. The programme, titled "Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases for Women from the Gypsy, Thrumbar, and Irular Communities," held at DB Centre in Tirupattur, the event aimed to raise awareness among marginalized women about critical health issues. The session began at 10:00 AM with registration and tea, followed by a formal welcome and honouring of the chief guests. Rev. Dr. Shanmugam SDB, Director of DEEDS, extended the welcome address. The project orientation was delivered by Mr. J. Vinoth, Project Coordinator of DBSARC, who provided an overview of the objectives and the importance of the programme.
At 11:00 AM, Dr. J. Jacob Stanley Inbaraj, Head (UG) and Associate Professor of Economics at Sacred Heart College, led an informative session on communicable and non-communicable diseases, emphasizing the causes, prevention, and management of various health conditions prevalent in the communities. This was followed by a culturally engaging awareness session using folk arts by Mr. Benjamin and his team from Villupuram, which effectively conveyed health messages in an accessible and relatable manner. The programme concluded with a final address and vote of thanks delivered by either Fr. Christopher, Director of DBSARC, and Mr. J. Vinoth, followed by a group photograph. The participants then dispersed after lunch, marking the end of a successful and impactful training day focused on empowering women through health education.
