The PG and Research Department of Economics, Sacred Heart College, organized the Rev. Dr. P.P. George Memorial Lecture on the topic “Alternative Economics and Transition to Durability” on 15th July, 2025 for the UG and PG students of the Department. The memorial lecture began with a prayer song, after which Ms. Keerthiga, a student of III B.A. Economics, warmly welcomed the gathering. Dr. J. Jacob Stanley Inbaraj, Head (UG) and Associate Professor, extended a warm welcome and facilitated the guest during the programme. Dr. A. Xavier Susairaj, Head (PG) and Associate Professor, shared fond memories of Rev. Fr. P.P. George. Dr. S. John Sundar, Assistant Professor, introduced the resource person, Rev. Fr. Arun Kumar Christu Raj, Regional In-charge for MCC and Christian Movements for Directors and Managers, Paris, France.
Rev. Fr. Arun Kumar in his address, emphasized the significance of alternative economics and the importance of social equity, sustainability, well-being, and the need for socially just economic systems. He also highlighted that the transition to durability is an urgent necessity in the face of ongoing global environmental and social crises. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. N. Shanwaz, Student Secretary, III B.A. Economics. The master of ceremonies for the event was Ms. Mapalo Mwengwe, also of III B.A. Economics.
