Event Details

On 15th  August 2025, Sacred Heart College commemorated the nation’s 79th  Independence Day in the college grounds at 8.30 a.m. with great enthusiasm and grandeur. The event was honoured by the presence of Dr. A. George Maria Selvam, Head Department  of Mathematics, and Dr. P. Manoharan, Associate Professor of Mathematics as Chief Guests. Rev. Dr. Praveen Peter, the Rector and Secretary, Principal, Rev. Dr. D. Maria Antony Raj, the Additional Principal, Rev. Dr. G. Theophil Anand, Vice-Principal, Rev. Dr. Daniel Ambrose, (Administration Shift – I), Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students attended the celebration.

          The event witnessed a disciplined contingent drill led by Lieutenant Dr. K. Sivakumar. The cadets, holding the guard of honour, paid their respects to the Indian Tricolour as it was unfurled in the college ground by Dr. P.Manoharan. It was followed by the release of the SHC Times, News Letter of the college by the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour.

           The principal, Rev. Dr. D. Maria Antony Raj, in his special message, extended warm wishes on the occasion of the 79th  independence Day. He reminded the students that they are the architects of the nation’s future and urged them not to become passive followers or “slaves” to actors in politics. Expressing concern over the youth’s diminishing sense of responsibility, he called for active engagement in shaping a just and progressive society. He also highlighted that as the nation celebrates its 79th  Independence   Day, Sacred Heart College proudly celebrates its Platinum Jubilee. He expressed confidence that in the years to come, the college’s achievements would stand as a proud testimony to its legacy.

           The Chief Guest, Dr. A. George Maria Selvam, in his Independence Day address, reflected on the nation’s journey since freedom and underscored the importance of unity, responsibility, and commitment towards nation-building.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks and the National Anthem.
