Objectives of the workshop
1. To familiarize students with the stages of short filmmaking: pre-production, production, and post-production.
2. To provide practical knowledge of scriptwriting, visual storytelling, camera operation, and editing techniques.
3. To encourage teamwork and creative implementation.

 

        A Short Film-Making workshop was conducted at the Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, organized by the Media Forum Association to provide students with practical experience and enhance their understanding of filmmaking. The event aimed to introduce core concepts, technical skills, and creative processes involved in making short films. Nearly 60 students from various disciplines attended the workshop.

The various topics covered in the lecture workshop.

1. Introduction to Filmmaking
Explanation of basic filmmaking terms like movie, cinema, and films. Overview of the evolution of camera technology, along with a few award-winning short films.
2. Pre-production Phase
Basics of story development, scripting, and character creation. Guidance on planning, storyboarding, shot lists, scheduling, and equipment booking.
3. Production Phase
Basics of the Cinema camera, DSLR, and Mobile camera

4. Post-production Phase
Workshop on editing software and techniques for organizing footage and creating narrative flow. Emphasis on continuity, transitions, and audio mixing.

 

Outcomes
             Students gained filmmaking ideas and a deeper understanding of the creative and technical processes involved in short film production. The workshop promoted teamwork and critical thinking.


Conclusion
This workshop successfully imparted the theoretical knowledge of short filmmaking. By providing real-world insights and collaborative activities, students were empowered to craft stories and realize their creative visions, resulting in a highly educational and motivating experience for all involved.
