The Department of Library, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur in collaboration with District Central Library, Tirupattur organized a programme on National Librarians’ Day on 12th August, 2025 in commemoration of 133rd Birthday Anniversary of Padmashri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, Father of Library and Information Science, India at 11.0 am. The programme started with Tamilthai vazhthu followed by a note on the significance of the day that was shared by Dr. M. Selvam, the Librarian. The chief guests Dr. K. Antony Baskaran, Associate Professor of Commerce and Mrs. Prema, District Library Officer i/c including all the library committee members paid floral tribute to Dr. S. R. Ranganthan. The District Library Officer i/c, Mrs. Prema delivered her Presidential Address on Dr. S.R. Ranganathan’s Life, achievements and his contribution to the LIS society. She emphasised the importance of the role of libraries in modern era. The Chief Guest Dr. K. Antony Baskaran gave an insightful address on the role of libraries for academic community. He highlighted on the various functions and unlimited services offered by the libraries to the society. He also quoted a real time example of the great personalities like Karl Marx and Dr. B.R Ambedkar who were frequent visitors to the library and he also added that all their works had been published with the support from the libraries. During his speech, he invited the students to make use of the library and its resources for one’s personal growth and development. Mr. R. Baskar, Asst. Librarian, proposed the vote of thanks.
