The Department of B.Com(CA) organized a invited talk  on Gender Discrimination” Forms of Gender Discrimination in Contemporary Society on 21st August 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The session was conducted by Ms. G. Shanmugha Priya, MBA, M.Phil., LLB, Advocate, Palacode, who shared her deep knowledge and practical insights on the issue of gender inequality.

The program began with a formal welcome address, followed by the introduction of the resource person. Ms. Priya emphasized that gender discrimination continues to exist in different forms despite societal progress. She explained that discrimination is not limited to workplaces but extends to education, politics, family systems, and cultural practices.

During the lecture, she elaborated on several forms of gender discrimination in contemporary society, including:

  • Workplace Discrimination – unequal pay, limited opportunities for leadership, and harassment.

  • Educational Discrimination – denial of equal learning opportunities and gender stereotypes in career choices.

  • Domestic Inequality – unequal distribution of household responsibilities and restrictions on women’s autonomy.

  • Political Discrimination – underrepresentation of women in decision-making roles.

  • Social and Cultural Discrimination – bias in inheritance, marriage practices, and societal expectations.

She also highlighted the importance of legal awareness and women’s rights, encouraging students to actively contribute towards building an equal and inclusive society. The session was highly interactive, with students asking questions and sharing their perspectives on real-life challenges faced in their communities.

The lecture concluded with a note of gratitude to Ms. Shanmugha Priya for her inspiring and thought-provoking presentation. The event helped students understand the urgent need to combat gender discrimination and promote gender equality in every sphere of life.
