AICUF Shift-II of Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, organized an Invited Talk and Debate on National Human Rights Day on 10 December 2025 at the Oasis Hall. The event began with a welcome address by Ms. G. Dharshini, II B.Sc. Computer Science, followed by Ms. Maria Keerthana, II B.A. English introducing the resource person. Ms. Harini, II B.Sc. Computer Science served as the Master of Ceremony.
The invited talk was delivered by Dr. Harikrishnan S., M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D., Assistant Professor of History, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur). In his insightful address, he shed light on the origins and evolution of human rights, the framing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), and the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Indian Constitution. He also discussed contemporary issues like women’s rights and child protection. His presentation encouraged students to view human rights as essential principles that shape a fair and just society.
After the talk, a student debate was conducted on the topic “Human Rights in India: Promise vs Practice.” Participants presented strong arguments on both sides, examining how far the ideals of human rights are upheld in reality. The debate stimulated critical thinking among students and encouraged them to engage deeply with the challenges related to human rights implementation in India.
At the end of the programme, Ms. Koperum Devi proposed the vote of thanks. The event was organized under the Presidents of AICUF, Mrs. C. Elavarasi, Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Mr. Kamesh U, Assistant Professor of English. The invited talk and debate successfully enriched students’ understanding of human rights and motivated them to uphold constitutional values and social justice in their everyday actions.
