Event Details

As part of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, successfully organized “Sadugudu 75”, a four-day All India ‘A’ Grade Kabaddi Tournament, from 25th to 28th December 2025. The tournament stood as a proud reflection of the College’s commitment to holistic education, indigenous sports and community engagement, inspired by the Salesian spirit of Don Bosco. The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from 19 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams representing premier institutions and national-level teams. Nearly 20,000 spectators thronged the campus over four days, creating a vibrant and electrifying sporting atmosphere.

The inaugural session was presided over by Rev. Dr. Praveen Peter SDB, Secretary of Sacred Heart College. The inaugural and keynote address was delivered by Rev. Dr. Maria Anthony Raj SDB, Principal of the College. The tournament was formally inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr. R. Gandhi, Minister for Handlooms and Textiles,  Government of Tamil Nadu. On this occasion, Dr. G. Vishwanathan, Founder of VIT, Vellore, was honoured with the “Don Bosco Award”. The event was further dignified by the presence of Mr. Ganesan, former Kabaddi player and Arjuna Award recipient. The ceremonial commencement of the Kabaddi matches was officiated by Mrs. K. Sivasoundharavalli, District Collector, Tirupattur, in the presence of Mrs. V. Shyamaladevi, Superintendent of Police, Tirupattur District.

The second day of the tournament commenced at 4.00 p.m. with Hon’ble Mr. D. Madhiyazhagan, MLA, Bargur Constituency, as Chief Guest. On this day, Tamilsemmal Ln. Dr. R. Rathina Nadarajan was honoured with the “Rev. Fr. P. M. Thomas Award”, presented by   Rev. Fr. John Christy SDB, Youth Ministry Delegate & Provincial Councillor, Salesian Province of Chennai. The programme was further graced by Mrs. R. Jayakumari, NIS Certified Kabaddi Coach and District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer, and Mrs. R. Gunasundhari, District Physical Education Inspector.


The third day featured Mr. V. Chandrasekar, Founder of Shree Vidya Manthir Schools of Education, as Chief Guest. He was honoured with the prestigious “Rev. Fr. Guezou Award”, presented by Rev. Dr. John Alexander SDB, Vice-Provincial of the Salesian Province of Chennai, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to education. The event was honoured by the presence of Mr. Senthil Kumar, MLC, Vaniyambadi, Mr. Anil Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Income Tax Department, Vellore, Mr. Cholai M. Raja, President, Tamil Nadu State Amateur Kabaddi Council, and Mr. A. Sayabullah, Secretary, Tamil State Amateur Kabaddi Council.
 

The fourth day was graced by Hon’ble Mr. E. V. Velu, Minister for Public Works and Highways, Government of Tamil Nadu, as Chief Guest. A Special Address was delivered by Mr. C. N. Annadurai, Member of Parliament, Tiruvannamalai Constituency. The occasion was further honoured by Mr. K. Devaraji, MLA (Jolarpet), Mr. A. Nallathambi, MLA (Tirupattur), and Mr. A. C. Vilvanathan, MLA (Ambur).
The tournament concluded with the valedictory session, during which Hon’ble Mr. K. C. Veeramani, former Minister, distributed the prizes to the winning teams and outstanding players.

In the Men’s Category, Red Army secured the First Prize, followed by Indian Navy as the Second Prize winners, while SDK Delhi and Green Army jointly claimed the Third Prizes. In the Women’s Category, South Central Railway emerged as the First Prize winners, with PKR Gopichettipalayam securing the Second Prize, and SSB Rajasthan and Sai Gujarat sharing the Third Prizes. With a total prize money of ₹28,00,000, Sadugudu 75 emerged as a grand success and a proud milestone in the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Sacred Heart College, leaving a lasting legacy of sportsmanship, unity and cultural pride.
