The Department of History, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, organised a Heritage Walk intending to provide students with practical exposure to historical monuments and help them understand their historical, cultural, religious, and architectural significance. The programme aimed to enhance experiential learning and promote awareness about the rich heritage of the Tirupattur region. The event began with an inspiring speech by the Head of the Department of History, who emphasized the importance of heritage studies, field-based learning, and the responsibility of students in preserving historical monuments. The first destination of the heritage walk was the Kottai Brahmeshwarar Temple, located at Kottai Street, Tirupattur. Students carefully observed the architectural brilliance of the temple, including its stone construction, layout, sculptures, and artistic craftsmanship, which reflect the excellence of Chola architecture. The second site visited was the Subramania Swamy Thirukkovil, popularly known as the Murugan Temple, situated at Pasilikuttai, Tirupattur. The heritage walk proved to be a valuable learning experience for the students. Through direct observation and interaction with temple priests, students gained insights into the historical development of temples, the influence of various dynasties, architectural styles, religious traditions, and local legends. The visit enhanced their understanding of heritage conservation and helped them appreciate the cultural continuity of the region beyond textbook knowledge.
