
Department of Extension Education and Services, Groups and Movements of Shift–II(Eco Club, Media Forum, AICUF, Fine Arts Club, RRC, YRC, NSS, NCC, Mattru Nadaga Iyyakkam, and Youth for Social Responsibility), and Department of Physics, of Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, in collaboration with District Administration organized the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Awareness Rally and Programme on 25 June 2026. The programme was conducted to create awareness among students and the public about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the need to build a healthy and drug-free society.
The programme commenced with an Awareness Rally at 9.35 a.m. from the District Collectorate, Tirupattur. The rally was flagged off by Mr. G. Ravi Kumar, IAS, District Collector, Tirupattur District, and Mr. Akshay Anil Wakhare, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Tirupattur District, in the presence of Rev. Dr. Samson Shanmugam SDB, Vice-Principal (Shift–II), Rev. Dr. Bharathi Bernadsha SDB, and Mr. Danier Lawrence. Students enthusiastically participated in the rally carrying placards and raising anti-drug slogans to spread awareness among the public. 754 college students participated in this awareness rally. The rally passed through important areas of the town and concluded at Kamarajar Arangam, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur.
The formal awareness programme was then held at Kamarajar Arangam. 1412 students participate in awareness programme. The programme began with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu. Rev. Fr. Ignatius Stanley Lawrence SDB, Rector and Secretary, welcomed the gathering and emphasized the importance of collective efforts in preventing drug abuse among youth. The gathering was felicitated by Rev. Dr. Praveen Peter SDB, Principal, who highlighted the role of educational institutions in shaping responsible citizens. Rev. Dr. G. Theophil Anand SDB, Additional Principal, also delivered the felicitation address and encouraged students to uphold moral values and become ambassadors of social responsibility.
The chief guest, Mr. Akshay Anil Wakhare, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Tirupattur District, delivered an insightful and motivating address on the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. He explained the legal, social, and health consequences of substance abuse and urged students to stay away from drugs and actively contribute towards building a safe and healthy society. His address inspired the participants to become vigilant and responsible citizens.
As part of the observance, various competitions were conducted for students to create awareness about the menace of drug abuse. The competitions were effectively coordinated by Rev. Dr. Samson Shanmugam SDB, Vice-Principal (Shift–II), with the support of the student leaders, including the President and Vice-President of Eco Club, Media Forum, AICUF, Fine Arts Club, Red Ribbon Club, Youth Red Cross, NSS, NCC, Mattru Nadaga Iyyakkam, and Youth for Social Responsibility Shelters. Rev. Dr. Samson Shanmugam announced the prize winners and appreciated all the participants for their enthusiastic involvement and creative contributions in promoting anti-drug awareness.
The Prize Distribution Ceremony was presided over by Mr. Akshay Anil Wakhare, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Tirupattur District, who distributed prizes to the winners and congratulated them for their outstanding performances. He also appreciated the efforts of the organizers and participants in making the awareness campaign meaningful and impactful. Following the prize distribution, an Anti-Drug Oath was administered to all participants. Students and staff solemnly pledged to refrain from drug use, create awareness among their peers, and contribute towards building a drug-free society. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Sarala Devi, Head, Department of Tamil, who expressed her sincere gratitude to the District Collector, Superintendent of Police, Management, faculty members, organizers, student volunteers, and participants for their support and cooperation in making the programme a grand success. The programme concluded with the College Anthem.
