Report on the Orientation and Planning of Outreach Programme Shift–II

Department of Extension Education and Services (DEEDS), Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, successfully organized the Orientation and Planning of Outreach Programme (Shift–II) on 3rd July 2026 from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at Kamarajar Arangam. The programme was conducted to familiarize students with the vision, objectives, and implementation strategies of the college's outreach initiatives. The programme commenced with a prayer through a video song, creating a reflective atmosphere and seeking divine blessings for the successful conduct of the outreach activities. The gathering was formally welcomed by Prof. G. Rajkumar, Coordinator, Department of Commerce (Shift–II). In his welcome address, he highlighted the significance of extension education in bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-life social challenges.

Delivering the Inaugural Address, Rev. Dr. Shanmugam, SDB, Director, DEEDS, emphasized that education acquires true meaning only when it is translated into service. Referring to students as catalysts for social progress, he explained how outreach programmes provide a platform for understanding grassroots realities and contributing to sustainable community development. The programme was presided over by Rev. Fr. Ignatius Stanley Lawrence, SDB, Rector and Secretary, who, in his Presidential Address, encouraged students that meaningful outreach is not measured merely by the number of activities conducted but by the positive impact created in the lives of the people they serve. The Felicitation Address was delivered by Rev. Dr. G. Theophil Anand, SDB, Additional Principal, who appreciated the consistent efforts of DEEDS in promoting extension education across departments. He stressed that outreach programmes help students become socially conscious individuals by exposing them to diverse community issues and encouraging collaborative solutions.

The technical session featured Dr. T. Selvam, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Social Work, who delivered an informative lecture on "Projects and Programmes in Rural Areas." He elaborated on the socio-economic conditions prevailing in rural communities, the importance of participatory development, and the role of educational institutions in empowering marginalized sections of society. He also explained various approaches to planning, implementing, and monitoring rural development programmes, motivating students to contribute effectively during their field engagements. The second session focused on Planning and Preparation by the Core Group of Departments. Faculty coordinators and departmental representatives discussed the roadmap for the forthcoming outreach activities, identified responsibilities, finalized implementation strategies, and coordinated departmental participation. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. S. Rajeshwari, Assistant Professor, Department of English (Shift–II). Master of ceremony was done by Ms. Rekha, Department of English. The event concluded with the College Anthem.
