Back to Events

Department of Extension Education and Services (DEEDS), Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, in collaboration with the Don Bosco Social Action Research Centre (DBSARC), Tiruvannamalai, organized a Poultry Livelihood Support Distribution Programme on 6th July 2026 at 1.15 p.m. The initiative was undertaken to empower rural families through sustainable income generation, with a special focus on supporting Gypsy women by providing them with poultry units as a means of self-employment. The programme aimed to enhance the socio-economic well-being of marginalized communities by promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities. Poultry farming was identified as a practical and viable income-generating activity due to its low investment requirements, and potential to provide a regular source of income and improved household nutrition.

The poultry livelihood support was formally distributed by Rev. Fr. Ignatious Stanley Lawrence, SDB, Rector and Secretary, and Rev. Dr. Shanmugam, Director, Department of Extension Education and Services (DEEDS), Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur. In their address, they emphasized the importance of livelihood-based interventions in fostering self-reliance, economic empowerment, and social inclusion among vulnerable communities. They encouraged the beneficiaries to make effective use of the support provided and to develop poultry farming into a sustainable source of income for their families. The Gypsy women beneficiaries expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the assistance, noting that the initiative would help improve their household income and contribute to a better quality of life.
