Palmyra Seed Plantation Programme in Commemoration of the Birth Anniversary of Karmaveerar Kamarajar

The Extension Service Activities of the Department of Chemistry, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, in collaboration with the A.K. Mottur Panchayat, organized a Palmyra Seed Plantation Programme under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) on 15th July 2026 at A.K. Mottur Village to commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Karmaveerar K. Kamarajar. The programme aimed to promote environmental sustainability, encourage ecological restoration, and honour the legacy of Kamarajar by engaging students in meaningful community service.

The programme was graced by Rev. Dr. Shanmugam SDB, Director of DEEDS (Department of Extension Education and Development Services), Mr. Mario Leo, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, and Mr. Velu, Panchayat President of A.K. Mottur, as the Chief Guests. In their addresses, they emphasized the importance of preserving the environment through community participation and highlighted Kamarajar's vision of social development through education, service, and sustainable growth. They encouraged the students to become responsible citizens by actively contributing to environmental conservation.

As part of the programme, 1,000 Palmyra seeds were planted at various locations in A.K. Mottur Village by the enthusiastic students of the Department of Chemistry. The initiative was undertaken to increase green cover, conserve the native Palmyra species, improve groundwater recharge, prevent soil erosion, and restore the ecological balance of the region. The students participated with great dedication, demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship and community welfare.
