Sacred Heart College
Department of Extension Service of Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) initiative, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Tirupattur, organized a Tree Plantation and Palmyra Seed Sowing Programme on 14th July 2026 at 11.00 a.m. at A.K. Mottur Lake, Tirupattur. The programme was conducted with the objective of promoting environmental sustainability, restoring the ecological balance of the lake ecosystem, and creating awareness on the importance of afforestation and the conservation of native Palmyra trees.
The programme was graced by Rtn. Venkatachalam, President of the Rotary Club of Tirupattur, Rtn. Arunagiri, Zonal Secretary, Rotary Club, Rev. Dr. Shanmugam SDB, Vice-Principal (Administration) and Director of Extension Services, Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur, and Mr. Velu, Panchayat President of A.K. Mottur, who served as the Chief Guests. In their addresses, they highlighted the significance of protecting water bodies through tree plantation, preserving biodiversity, and encouraging youth to actively participate in environmental conservation for a sustainable future.
The Guests of Honour included Mr. Muniyappan, Director of Makkal Valarchi Arakattalai, Rtn. Ramu, Panchayat President of Kurumbageri, and Mr. Mario Leo, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur. They appreciated the collaborative efforts of educational institutions, local self-government bodies, and social organizations in fostering environmental responsibility among students and the local community.
As part of the programme, the students of the Department of Chemistry enthusiastically planted tree saplings and sowed Palmyra seeds around A.K. Mottur Lake. The initiative aimed to increase the green cover, strengthen the lake ecosystem, improve groundwater recharge, and preserve the Palmyra tree, an ecologically and culturally significant species of Tamil Nadu. The students actively participated with great dedication, demonstrating their commitment to environmental protection through meaningful community engagement. The programme concluded with a pledge by all the participants to continue supporting environmental conservation initiatives and to inspire society to protect natural resources through sustained collective action. The event served as a remarkable example through extension activities under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.
