Sacred Heart College
A Child Labour and Bonded Labour Awareness Programme was organized by the District Judiciary in collaboration with Sacred Heart College(Autonomous) Shift-II NSS and NCC students at Kodiyur Weekly Market(Sandai) on 22 July 2026 to create awareness among the general public on the eradication of child labour and bonded labour and to emphasize the importance of ensuring education, dignity, freedom, and a safe childhood for every child. The programme aimed to educate the public about the legal provisions relating to child labour and bonded labour, while encouraging collective responsibility in protecting the rights of children and vulnerable workers.
The programme was conducted in the presence of distinguished officials from the District Judiciary, Ms. Vijaya Rani, Lawyer Ganesan. The dignitaries addressed the gathering and emphasized the need to completely eradicate child labour and bonded labour through legal enforcement, public awareness, and community participation. Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur – Shift II actively participated in the awareness programme through its NSS and NCC student volunteers. The volunteers were accompanied by Rev. Dr.Shanmugam, Vice-Principal, Dr. Chandrasekar, NSS President, Ms. Divya, NSS Vice-President, and Mr. Selvanathan, Outreach Coordinator, who inspired the students to actively engage in this important social awareness initiative.
As part of the programme, the NSS and NCC volunteers interacted with traders, vendors, workers, and the general public at the weekly market by distributing awareness pamphlets and explaining the harmful social, educational, and economic consequences of child labour and bonded labour. The judicial officials elaborated on the provisions of the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 (as amended) and the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976, stressing that engaging children in labour or forcing individuals into bonded labour is a punishable offence.
