The AICUF Club of Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur, organised a Training Programme on Street Play on 21 September 2026 at Thanthai Periyar Hall. The first-day session was conducted from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and was led by Mr. J. Ranjith Roy, Former Tamil Nadu AICUF State Animator, Street Play Director, and Dalit and Women’s Rights Activist. The programme was organised with the objective of introducing students to the vision and activities of AICUF and providing them with an initial orientation to street play as a medium of social communication.
The session began with an orientation on the All India Catholic University Federation (AICUF). The Resource Person explained the purpose, values and social vision of AICUF and highlighted the responsibilities of students associated with the organisation. He emphasised that an AICUF student should be socially conscious, responsible and willing to respond constructively to issues affecting society. He encouraged the students to observe the realities around them, understand social concerns and develop a spirit of service and active participation. He also shared his personal experiences and involvement with AICUF, which enabled the students to understand the organisation and its activities through practical experiences.
The Resource Person subsequently introduced the students to the concept and purpose of street play. He explained how street theatre can be used as an effective medium to communicate social messages directly to the public. The students were introduced to the basic techniques involved in street-play performance, including voice projection, facial expressions, body language, gestures, group coordination, movement and audience engagement. He explained the importance of presenting a clear social message and maintaining coordination among performers. The students were also given practical guidance on acting, collective performance and the effective use of voice and expressions while performing in an open space.
The session was interactive and experiential, allowing students to understand both the social purpose of AICUF and the practical significance of street theatre. The Resource Person encouraged the students to overcome hesitation and actively participate in the activities. The training helped the students develop an initial understanding of how performance can be used to create awareness about social issues and prepared them for the practical activities and street-play performance scheduled for the second day.
The first day of the programme concluded at 12:30 p.m. The session provided the students with a meaningful introduction to AICUF, social responsibility and the fundamentals of street play. The attendance sheet containing the signatures of the participating students is enclosed with the report
