Back to Events

The second day of the AICUF Training Programme on Street Play was conducted on 22 September 2026 at Thanthai Periyar Hall, Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Tirupattur. The session was held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and continued under the guidance of Mr. J. Ranjith Roy, Former Tamil Nadu AICUF State Animator, Street Play Director, and Dalit and Women’s Rights Activist. While the first day introduced the students to AICUF and the fundamentals of street theatre, the second-day session focused on important social issues and their representation through performance.

The Resource Person engaged the students in a detailed discussion on women’s oppression and caste discrimination. He explained the various ways in which social inequality and discrimination affect individuals and communities and encouraged the students to develop sensitivity towards such issues. Particular attention was given to the need to recognise injustice and to respond to it responsibly. The students were encouraged to understand the importance of equality, dignity, social justice and the right of every individual to live without discrimination.

The session also included a discussion on the ideas and social reform efforts associated with Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The Resource Person explained the relevance of Ambedkar’s thoughts concerning equality, caste discrimination, dignity and the rights of oppressed communities. The discussion encouraged students to reflect on social inequalities and understand the importance of questioning discriminatory practices. The students were also encouraged to use their voices constructively and to communicate social concerns through creative and peaceful forms of expression.

Following the discussion, the students were engaged in practical training related to street play. The Resource Person taught them how to sing and enact situations connected with the social themes discussed during the session. Students practised voice projection, dialogue delivery, facial expressions, body movements, group coordination and collective singing. They were guided on how to present a social issue in a simple yet effective manner so that the message could reach the audience clearly. The activities provided the students with an opportunity to transform the ideas discussed in the session into practical performance.

The students participated actively in the activities and demonstrated enthusiasm in singing, acting and group performance. The training helped them develop confidence, communication skills, teamwork and social awareness while preparing them for the street-play performance scheduled for the afternoon. The session also enabled students to understand how street theatre can serve as a creative medium for expressing concerns related to social inequality and injustice.

The second-day training session concluded at 1:00 p.m. The session successfully combined discussion, awareness-building and practical performance training and prepared the students to present their street play before the college community. The activity document and attendance sheet containing the signatures of the participating students are enclosed with the report.
